Project Background

The Blackwater coal mine is a coal mine located in the Central Queensland south of the town of Blackwater, Queensland in the suburb of Stewarton. The mine has coal reserves amounting to 877 million tonnes of coking coal, one of the largest coal reserves in Australia and the world. It is owned by BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance and has an annual production capacity of 13 million tonnes of coal.

Major Goals

  • Complete works with a ‘zero harm safety focus’.

  • Working alongside UGL, achieve correct motor deck flatness.

  • Shut down paced works with speed and accuracy.

Key Outcomes

  • Zero incident achieved.

  • Works completed with the utmost accuracy and ahead of schedule.
